Laughing at Nerds

Being a nerd/geek, I don’t usually get to laugh at other geeks/nerds very much, but these guys are hilarious. Fear of Girls is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on the web.

Google Maps are Fun

I’ve been palying with the Google Maps API recently and having a lot iof fun. The examples in the API make it very easy to adapt to what you want it ti do. I’m only starting off at the simple end of things, plotting some static points, but it’s encouraging to see that I can get this far without too much effort and could do a bit more if I felt like it.
It’s written in javascript, and I’m pretty clueless in javascript, but it’s simple enough to see what the examples do. Anyway, you can see my map of Churches in Bo’ness.

Brand New Virus?

I just had an email through which looks legit, but which set the alarm bells ringing:

“Hello,

Your photograph was forwarded to us as part of an article we are publishing for our May edition of Business Monthly. Can you check over the format and get back to us with your approval or any changes you would like. If the photograph is not to your liking then please attach a preferred one.

Kind regards,

John Andrews
Dept Marketing
Flexiprint.co.uk
” it came from john@flexiprint.co.uk

There’s no way this is to me personally – nobody is going to be putting my picture in an article. It came with an attachment called Photo-Approval-Needed.zip and I’ve scanned this with the latest updates installed but nothing was found. The zip file apparently contains an.scr file, which is what has convinced me that it must be a virus.

I found nothing on google about htis, so I thought I would post this as a warning. I’m going to ang onto this file for a day or two and see when the virus scanner acually recognises it.

Would you buy celebrity earwax??

I was looking for something perfectly innocent on ebay when I came upon an auction
for Jewel’s ear wax
. I mean, I like some of her music, but how far would you have to go to buy earwax belonging to your favourite celebrity??. It was, by the way, the only earwax on sale when I looked at ebay.

Great firefox article

Wired magazine has a Great article on the release of Firefox 1.0. As a long time Opera user I was already happy with no-ie browsing. SOme of the guys at work were using firefox, and I decided to try it. I likes it but there were all these things that opera did that firefox didn’t. Except taht it does if you download a couple of extensions. I just keep discovering lots of new things to make me love Firefox more (several from this article alone.). So go on, get Firefox
