I was reading on JC Hutchins site about a downloadable film called Missing Pages. It really is amazing. It’s in 3 episodes (quite hefty downloads) and tells the story of a man who invents a time machine and the consequences of his invention.
It is quite frightening in parts – some of the characters from the future are quite spooky – but it has real emotion and some genuinely interesting twists.
The interesting thing is that the film is not shot in live action, but created from thousands of stills, animated together. THese pictures are layered, zoomed and rotated to amazing effect.
It’s a fascinating story and really interesting to watch. Well worth checking out.
Things can be a bit random at my office sometimes. I was sitting at my desk about quarter to five when one of my bosses came in. the film festival is on in Edinburgh at the moment and i was asked to go to one of the local cinemas and meet our in-house photographer with our camera. except it turned out he couldn’t make it so yours truly was a papperazi for an hour.
I had no clue what the film was or what it was about, i just kept taking photos. I did recognise Billy Boyd, of Lord of the Rings fame. and one of the guys from the TV series Absolutely. Moray Hinter, who was ither Mr Don or Mr George. Anyway, after snapping away for a while thing quietened down a bit so I went inside to see the film, having been given a ticket.
It’s the first film I have seen in a long time where I wasn’t disappointed. Granted. I knew nothing about it going in, but it totally delivered. it was very believable and I really connected with the characters. There was emotion. but bot melodrama. The film is the story of Graeme Obree. who broke world records on a bike made partly from a washing machine. There is a lot more to it than that but I won’t say more because I think the less you know the story the better. if I have any good photos of the event I may post them
I’m a big fan of toast, and a friend of mine has recently created a short film about Toast which is well worth seeing. Hopefully it will be getting some festival releases soon.

Setting myself up for a fall
So I’ve just watched the trailer for the next star wars movie and, as always, it looks great and, as always, the final movie is going to be awful! I can’t stand it!
I thought the last Spiderman movie was great, and I’m looking forward to the next one, but what’s caught my eye today is the newSpiderman Game. Apparently you can swing through the streets of manhattan and it should be pretty realistic. This sounds like a lot of fun for someone who’s been to NYC a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Plus it’s coming out on the simply wonderful gamecube!

Review: The Station Agent
The Station Agent is about the relationship between a guy who runs a snack vam a mother who has lost her young son, and a guy who inherits an old station house. It sounds a little boring but it’s not, it’s a lot of fun and a really good watch. My only complaint is that it finishes quite abruptly – I could have watched a lot more of this.

Review: House of Sand and Fog
House of Sand and Fog stars Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly.
This is an amazing film. I haven’t seen Sean Penn’s film, but Ben Kingsley was robbed of an oscar. I did see “Lost in Translation”, and Bill Murray’s great, but I thought Ben Kinglsey was superb in this film. It’s not a comfortabble or cheerful, in fact it’s pretty bleak – lots of people who are all in the right, but whose rights clash – but it is a suberbly acted story.

Review: School of Rock
School of Rock stars Jack Black as a wannabe rocker who ends up being a substitute teacher for a class of ten year olds.
This film is so much fun! I’ve been a Jack Black fan since High Fidelity and this is the best I’ve seen him at yet! It’s just a joyful, happy, exhuberant movie with lots of really good music. My music knowledge isn’t that great, but this is the kind of movie that makes me want to investigate.
