Igby Goes Down stars Kieran Culkin, Jeff Goldblum and too many other famous people to mention. It’s a story of a young man with a dysfunctional family who escapes to New York.
Either I’m too stupid, or this film’s not as great as everyone says. It could easily be the former. I’ve read people comparing it to Catcher in the Rye but then I hated the kid in that book too.
The film isn’t all that bad and the performances are all really strong. It has some really good lines and some interesting scenes, but I just felt like I missed the point. I won’t be watching it again.

Review: Summer Things
Summer Things is a french film about a group of friends and acquaintances and how their lives unfold during a week’s holiday by the sea.
I liked this film a lot. We got offered free tickets and went to see this on Saturday night. I was a little worried, having seen the trailer, that it would be full of sex scenes, and I’m easily embarassed, but it wasn’t. It was lots of interesting stories well mixed together and told with a lot of humour.
It’s wickedly funny, somethimes literally so. Some of the lines make you gasp that someone can say that, and some of the humour is in such harsh circumstances.
I haven’t done french since school, but even with subtitles this was a great movie, and it was really well played. Well worth a watch

Review: Bringing Down the House
Bringing Down the House stars Steve Martin, Queen Latifah and Eugene Levy (the Dad from American Pie). Queen Latifah makes Steve Martin help her out with a legal case and totally disrupts his life in the process.
I saw this on Saturday evening and really enjoyed it. Is it high art? No. Does it say deep stuff? Mostly no, although some of the racial attitudes displayed in it are quite frightening. But I did laugh a lot. It’s what you expect to see if you go and see it. I had heard bad reviews and was a little concerned, but thought it was very funny. Eugene Levy is hilarious, acting as a middle class lawyer who knows all the “lingo” (I SO do not!).

Review: Anger Management
Anger Management
This movie stars Adam Sandler, Jack Nicholson and Marisa Tomei. Adam Sandler is ordered to take anger management treatment from Jack Nicholson after an incident on an aircraft.
I saw this yesterday, and was disappointed. I had been told that it was good, but I was just annoyed at the end. The beginning and whole premise of the movie is so contrived that I spent my time waiting for it to be explained, or for someone to wake up.
It did have its good points, and there were some funny bits and good cameos. Jack Nicholson was funny, and had some great moments, but the wole thig was just soo off kilter from the beginning that I couldn’t enjoy it fully.

Movie Reviews
I’m a bit of a movie fan, and I go to the cinema about once a week, so I’ve decided to add movie reviews to my blog. Nobody will read them but I’ll have fun writing them.
