Park Attack

A friend of mine from work is a member of a band called Park Attack, who’ve been getting lots of attention since some friends of theirs called Franz Ferdinand hit it big. She’s just redesigned the website so have a look.

Apparently they are “the combined sound of Glasgow, Newcastle and Leighton Buzzard, kicking no wave into the realms of fantasy.”

New 24 Clock Screensaver

Okay, after much procrastination, and some requests, I’ve put together a new version of my 24 Clock Screensaver. This version has sound. I haven’t put in a mechanism for getting rid of the sound, but some people wanted it quickly, so you can now download the 24 Clock Screensaver (app 1MB). If you see anythign wrong, or have suggestions, just leave a comment.

UPDATE: 30/10/09 – I finally found the file again, so I’ve just re-uploaded it.

WooHoo

In Britain we have an honours system (by which people get made Knights and Lords etc) and there are a variety of other honours given out at the same time.

Lots of British celebrities get awards of various kinds, but I’ve just found out that Eric Ross, my old school janitor, got an MBE!!!! He totally deserves it.

I bet this is the reason . . .

. . . that I don’t have a girlfriend. We were clearing out our linen cupboard and, right at the back, we found this:
The hideous forest animals towel
I didn’t recognise it at first, but my sister said I used to use it when I went swimming as a kid. Of course I denied it hotly, except . . . I think she may be telling the truth. I don’t have a great memory, and it is starting to become hauntingly familiar . . . . What kind of towel is this to give a young man (well, little boy??) I must be deeply emotionally scarred somehow.

The Wolf and the Lamb

WOLF, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, but to find some plea to justify to the Lamb the Wolf’s right to eat him. He thus addressed him:
“Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me.”
“Indeed,” bleated the Lamb in a mournful tone of voice, “I was not then born.”
Then said the Wolf, “You feed in my pasture.”
“No, good sir,” replied the Lamb, “I have not yet tasted grass.”
Again said the Wolf, “You drink of my well.”
“No,” exclaimed the Lamb, “I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother’s milk is both food and drink to me.”
Upon which the Wolf seized him and ate him up, saying, “Well! I won’t remain supperless, even though you refute every one of my imputations.”
The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny.

I’m not one for social commentary, but this struck a chord.

Explorer Hanging

It took me a while to find the answer to this, so I thought I would post this to see if the answer gets picked up by the search engine. When I right-clicked in Windows Explorer, it would hang and I could only get rid of it by shutting down explorer and restarting Windows. It turned out that when I uninstalled Eraser, an excellent security program I have been using, that the problem disappeared. Since I was loathed to go without it, I checked the forums and, sure enouth this post held the answer.

Starstruck

Okay, so I’ve never really seena nyone famous. I’ve seen Stephen Hendry in a Virgin Megastore, but apart from that, and seeing Rolf Harris when I was really young (looking very tired in a Glasgow railway station, when my parents would’t let me ask for an autograph) I’ve never seen anyone famous. Well, hold the phone! I was collecting my sister from Edinburgh Airport (not, in my experience, a hangout for the rich and famous) about 10 days ago when who did I see???? SAMUEL L. JACKSON. I mean, wow, how starstruck am I? I only recognised him at the last minute when he was walking towards me (must be the jedi powers of disguise he has), but it was definitely him, because the people behind me in the queue waiting for others to collect their luggage were talking about having to take him to the Dunhill cup. Now that’s what I call a movie star sighting!

You may not care, but I just got a new car and here it is:

The only thing that diisturbs me is that it’s a lot bigger than I thought it was when I was buying it – it just didn’t seem as big. But it’s still very nice.
