Review: Down With Love

Down With Love stars Renee Zelwegger, Ewan McGregor and David Hyde Pierce.

Apparently this movie plays off some Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies from the 60s. Although I like older films. I haven’t seen any of these specific ones, so I’m sure I missed things. That’s the only explanation I can give for how little I enjoyed this film. I mean 6 people (from an audience of about 30) walked out before the film was over. That can’t be good. There are good bits in it, and the central story is interesting enough, but the pastiche of older stuff is just overdone.

Exolith Screensaver

Exolith.ch is an amazing site. It carries images of rock formations created in Woodland areas. I saw it a few months ago and I thought the images were great. Well, now that I’m back from New York I need something else as a screensaver for my t100, so I stole some of the images from exolith and I’m putting them up here for other people to enjoy. Exolith Screensaver If there are any problems with this I’ll take it down again.

Starstruck

Okay, so I’ve never really seena nyone famous. I’ve seen Stephen Hendry in a Virgin Megastore, but apart from that, and seeing Rolf Harris when I was really young (looking very tired in a Glasgow railway station, when my parents would’t let me ask for an autograph) I’ve never seen anyone famous. Well, hold the phone! I was collecting my sister from Edinburgh Airport (not, in my experience, a hangout for the rich and famous) about 10 days ago when who did I see???? SAMUEL L. JACKSON. I mean, wow, how starstruck am I? I only recognised him at the last minute when he was walking towards me (must be the jedi powers of disguise he has), but it was definitely him, because the people behind me in the queue waiting for others to collect their luggage were talking about having to take him to the Dunhill cup. Now that’s what I call a movie star sighting!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I don’t have to deal with Hurricans Isabel, but these Nasa photographs are amazing!

The only thing that diisturbs me is that it’s a lot bigger than I thought it was when I was buying it – it just didn’t seem as big. But it’s still very nice.

Macromedia Studio MX 2004 Released

This was supposed to be a flash blog, honest. Anyway, Macromedia have released Studio MX 2004. It has new versions of Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Freehand (an update rather than a full version) and Flash. Flash has split into two versions – Professional and standard. Professional is basically standard with bells on – more abilities, more components etc. You can download Demo cversions and try it out. The new interface is nice, with tabbed windows and lots of little refinements to help you enjoy the software.

Snails Game

SO obviously, having bought my PDA to able to develop Flash applications for mobile devices, so obviously I’ve been oplaying games with it 😀 Snails is a great game, I’ve never played worms, but apparently this is very similar. I haven’t ventured into multiplayer land, but singelplayer land is a lot of fun, and I don’t think my money was wasted.

Speccy Games

I was lucky enough to grow up playing around with Sinclair Spectrums (at least until Amstrad killed them off by taking over). I occasionally play games I used to love using an emulator, and I’ve recently discovered that ZX Planet offers quite a few for download.

My New Toy

I’m hoping to blog some of the interesting stuff I find getting ot know it and developing flash applications for it. my first plan is to write something so that I can blog from my PDA. I dont’ want to pay for the one program I’ve found so far without trying it, so I am going to try and write one. One page I’ve found really helpful so far is Pedro Ornelas’ XML-RPC Flash Lib
