I’m going to New York in a month or so (check out the countdown) so I was interested in stories of the blackout. here are a couple I enjoyed:

Review: 12 Angry Men
See, I know what you’re thinking – this movie’s ancient (And PLEASE don’t mention the recent apalling remake :()
Well I didn’t see this at the cinema. I live near Edinburgh, and every year there is an arts festival, and I barely ever see anything. Well this time some friends and I made the effort to go and see 12 Angry Men. If you haven’t seen the original movie, this review won’t make much sense.
It was really well played. There were was one particular weak performance, but that was a minor one. Everything else was excellent, the only problem was the audience. Stephen Frost was playing “the one with the son” and was terrific. You could just see the anger flowing out of him. Excep that some people obviously couldn’t. He is best known for comedy, but this was not played for laughs, and peopel were laughing at the most inappropriate times. that was what annoyed me the most. But the show was well worth seeing.
So many posts, so little time
I know I’ve been bad recently, but I think I’ll be catching up tonight. This doesn’t really matter though, since I’m almost certainly the only person who ever uses this blog. The most exciting thing that’s happened to me recently is that I handed in my resignation on Friday so, as of now, I’m serving out my notice before I move to my new employer. I’m really hoping that this job is a good next step for me.
Review: Legally Blonde 2
Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) stars Reese Witherspoon.
Within 10 Seconds I was asking myself – “What’s happening?” I enjoyed the first film a lot – it was a lot of fun, bright and bubbly, exactly the way ot looked. This one has killed the series.
The beginning is what does the most damage. The original had a cheery song, lots of colour and excitement. This one has three girls swooning over a photograph album to be given as a wedding present, but just in voice over. Most of the shots are screencaps from the first movie, which are obviously not actual photoraphs, and there is no warmth or fun to the start. After that, well, it never really gets going. There are a couple of decent bits, and huge amounts of really bad green-screen work, but the way it’s been put together has robbed it of any fun or spontaneity. There were the makings of a good movie here, but they ever had a chance

Who Walter Mitty was, but this article cleared things up.
I'd Forgotten . . .
. . . What hassles people have with dabs.com. I used to work for a hardware manufacturere and people were always complaining to me about them. But I’d forgotten.
So I ordered something from them three weeks ago and I’m still waiting. I’ll admit that it took me a while to send off the finance forms, but the fact is that one of the items has only over this past weekend moved from “awaiting stock” to “allocated”. The problem is that I’d asked them to change the order, but they’ve done it wrong.
I wouldn’t have such an issue, but they refuse to deal with individual customers on he phone. One five-minute phonecall a week or so a go would have sorted this out and I’d have my stuff by now, but instead I’m stuck with 24 hour turnarounds and mistakes in my order. grrrr.

Mozilla Firebird
I love my Opera Browser. I use it all the time, at work and at home, and only ever start up IE if I’m really stuck. So, being the kind of person who is open to minority browsers, I found these Reasons to switch to the Mozilla Firebird browser quite interesting. I’m trying it, but at the moment I’m spending my time tweaking it to work like my Opera does. It is very neat and clean with a minimal interface which I’m enjoying. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Freeserve and Freecell
Freeserve have recently started requiring customers to install a “Freeserve Connection Kit” to connect to the service. My mum connects through freeserve, so the last time I was down, I installed it for her. The problem was that, as soon as I was gone, she got back to her usual addiction – Freecell (I played thousands of games of this rather than writing my postgraduate dissertation 😀 – amazing that I still passed).
Anyway, Freecell had suddenly stopped working. There were strange characters in the title bar and the game could not be played. There was an error messaage about a device not being attached.
After shutting everything down except the dialler, the problem remained, but once I shut down the dialler, the problem was gone. So I hit Google, and found lots of people with the same problem, which Freeserve seems to be ignoring. This is their standard response. Not very inpressive.
In the mean-time, Atl-Ctrl-Del and shutting down ATdialler1 solves the problem.
